Geauga Lake opened as a trolley park at the turn of the century, and in 2004 was sold to the same parent company that owns Cedar Point from Six Flags. After the 2007 season, Cedar Fair announced that they will close the park. I haven't been to this park in years, but in my younger years it was an every-summer destination. Yesterday I walked out of the gates for the last time as I left the auction, a depressing event made more so by a small crowd, an overcast day, and an overall feeling that the park was already just a memory. I took over 200 pictures as I walked around what will become my generation's Euclid Beach or Chippewa Lake as I tell my children about this amusement park that used to be where the new condo / shopping center is now. I've included a few pictures below that highlighted some of the images were about to lose to history. The 1926 John Miller coaster, the Dipper, went for a paltry $5,000 and it is stated in today's Akron Beacon that it will be rebuilt but will never be operated again. I remember looking across the lake from Sea World's ski stadium during my first-grade fieldtrip in 1976, as it was the first time I'd seen a rollercoaster. It would be a few years until I got to ride my first one (the Double Loop). In a year's time, there will be nothing left of that view.
